Ecology and Health
Leisnham Lab
Exploring the intersection of human and environmental health
We research important environmental challenges facing Maryland, the US, and communities worldwide.
Our two main foci are 1) the invasion and control of medically important mosquitoes and 2) watershed health and sustainability. We address questions that are relevant to a range of disciplines, including population and community ecology, global change biology, watershed management, integrated pest management, and public health. Our interdisciplinary approach is grounded within the emerging discipline of Ecology and Health (or EcoHealth), a field of research, education, and practice that adopts systems approaches to promote the health of people, animals, and ecosystems in the context of social and ecological interactions.
Research
We are currently conducting research in Baltimore and the Watts Branch watershed.
Our research has been published in various journals including the Journal of Medical Entomology, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and Local Environment.
